Jaguars start their season strong

On August 29th, the Jaguar football team started off their season playing against the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders. This was an away game, and the Jaguars won 28-24. In the first quarter, senior Hunter Luther scored a 30-yard run, and sophomore Oliver Belina followed with the 2-point conversion. This was a close game to begin with, the first quarter ending 8-8. 

In the second quarter, sophomore Oliver Belina showed grit, breaking tackles to score a 30-yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, Oliver had a 20-yard run. The Jaguars completed the 2-point conversion, which came from a pass from senior Dane Meyer to senior Konner Bourek. The first half ended 22-16. Neither team was able to convert anything in the 3rd quarter, making the 3rd quarter scoreless in a close game.

 Lastly, in the last quarter of the game, Hunter Luther added a bigger gap to the score with a 7-yard run. The game ended 28-24. Dane Meyer had an interception late in the 4th quarter to seal the game. 

Oliver Belina led the team in rushing with 126, followed by Hunter Luther with 67, and Dane with 14. Quarterback Dane Meyer had 58 passing yards. Both senior Andre Martin and Konner Bourek had 30 receiving yards. Oliver Belina led the game in tackles with 14, Hunter Luther with 12, and Dane Meyer and junior Chase Luther each had 11. Senior Grant Perrin had 6. 

Next Friday, the Howells-Dodge Jaguars will take on the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots at home for the annual Bacon Bowl.
