Bacon Bowl trophy comes back to the Jags

 

The Howells Dodge Jaguars take home the trophy against the Clarkson Leigh Patriots. The Jags traveled to Leigh on Friday, September 6th, and won 36-12. Junior Hunter Luther started the game with a 34-yard run to score. Following him, freshman Oliver Belina, scored a 10-yard run to end the first quarter. After the first quarter, the score was 12-0. In the second quarter, junior Dane Meyer scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run. Later in the quarter, Meyer threw an 8-yard pass to Luther to score, yet another touchdown. At the end of the second quarter, the Jags were up 24-0. In the third quarter, senior Dylan Brichacek scored on a 3-yard run, making the score 30-0. The Patriots finally put points on the board in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard run from Wyatt Crosley. Sophomore Blane Stutzman scored a touchdown on a 50-yard run. At the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 36-12, allowing the Jaguars to take home the Bacon Bowl trophy. 

Blane Stutzman led the team in rushing yards with 73, followed by Hunter Luther with 68. Dane Meyer ended with 35 yards. Dylan Brichacek had 31, and Cooper Kreikemeier had 30. Oliver Belina also had 10. Dane Meyer carried in passing yards with 120, while Hunter Luther had 32. Hunter Luther led the team with 13 tackles, followed by Dylan Brichacek with 6. Senior Alex Beyer, junior Nathan Tomcak, and junior Konner Bourek all had 5 tackles. Sophomore Briggs Ernst had a total of 4 tackles. Juniors Matt Brester, Cooper Kreikemeier, and Carson Heard all had 3 tackles. Sophomores Chase Luther and Jax Nelson, junior Dane Meyer, and freshman Evan Hegemann all had 2 tackles. Senior Melvin Delgado, Blane Stutzman, and Oliver Belina all had 1 tackle. 

Coach Spiers commented on the game and stated, "It was a very physical game and I thought our boys responded to the level of play.  We were pleased with our defensive effort, but we must continue to improve going forward". The Jaguars will take on Lyons-Decatur Northeast at home next Friday, September 13th at 7 pm.
