Jags defeat Lyons-Decatur
On Friday, January 31, the Lady Jags took on the Lyons-Decatur Cougars. The Jags won with a score of 57-22. H-D forced 20 turnovers in the first half and had a comfortable lead. Lyons-Decatur got on a roll in the 3rd, cutting the lead to 37-21 with 4:33 remaining in the 3rd quarter. After that, H-D went on an 11-0 run and only allowed one free throw after that point. HD finished with 45% shooting on the night, aided by their 34 forced turnovers on 25 steals coming from 28 deflections. Coach Scott Polacek said, “Lyons-Decatur is well-coached, and improved their game greatly from our game in December. The girls cranked up their help defense tonight, and that proved to be our edge.”

Leading the team in points was Jordyn Ratzlaff with 14, Kylie Brichacek with 11, Peyten Becker and Kenadie Throener each had 8, McKenzie Sindelar had 5, Audrey Brabec had 4, Jade Bayer and Maura Cada each had 3, and Isabella Wegner had 1. Leading in rebounding was Brabec with 4, Ava Noyd with 3, Sindelar and Ratzlaff with 2, and Brichacek, Bella Koliha, Bayer, Becker, and Throener all added 1. Bayer led in steals with 5, Ratzlaff and Becker had 4, Sindelar had 3, Taylor Steffensmeier and Noyd had 2, and Throener, Brabec, Wegener, Cada, and Brichacek had 1. Bayer also led the team in deflections with 9, Brichacek, Sindelar, Ratzlaff, and Throener all had 3, Noyd had 2, Cada, Wegener, Brabec, Koliha, and Becker all had 1.
