Cyclones fall to the Cardinals
The Highway 91 Cyclones fell by seven runs against the Cardinals, with the final score being 16-9 at their home opener in Leigh. The Cyclones had seven hits and three errors in the game. Sophomore Mattie Rayback was the starting pitcher and had one strikeout and 3 walks that night. After Boone Central hit two home runs, junior Reann Bruhn was put in as the pitcher during the 3rd inning. Reann had 3 strikeouts and no walks for the night.
Junior Allie Dirkschneider led the team with two hits. Followed by senior Hannah Cech, juniors Reese Bruhn and Reann Bruhn, sophomores Shaylynn Marty and Brittney Faltys, all had one hit. Allie and Reann had two RBIs on the night. Followed by sophomore Bailey Rios, Mattie and Hannah had 1 RBI. Shay and Allie both hit a double in the game.
The Cyclones ran the basepaths and ended the night with 9 stolen bases. Freshman Dani Dirkschneider ran for Mattie and stole one base. Junior Grace Hansen, Allie, and Brittney also had one stolen base. Reann Bruhn ended the night with 2 stolen bases, and Hannah led the team with three stolen bases.
The fielding stats for the Cyclones are 21 putouts and 10 assists. Reese led the team with 8 put outs, Allie had 2 put outs and 6 assists, and Brittney had 4 put outs with 1 assist.
When asked about the game, Dani Dirkschneider had this to say, "Through the Boone Central game, we realized we couldn't give up halfway through the game just because we were losing. There is always an opportunity to make a comeback, and we showed a glimpse of that in the 5th inning, but we couldn't secure the win."
