Cyclones compete in the NEN tournament
The Highway 91 Cyclones traveled to Wisner to compete in the NEN tournament on Saturday, August 30th. The first game the Cyclones played was against Boone Central.
This game was a chance for the Cyclones to get revenge on the Cardinals, as this was their second time playing them this season. The score was 3-16 with the Cyclones not being able to come back as they were run-ruled. Highway 91 got 3 runs and 5 hits in this game. Sophomore Brittney Faltys had the most hits with 2. Followed by senior Jocelyn Donnelly, junior Reann Bruhn, and sophomore Mattie Rayback, each had 1 hit. Reann from Leigh was the leader in stolen bases with 1. Brittney led the team in putouts with 5, junior Allie Dirkschneider followed with 2, and junior Reese Bruhn and Mattie had 1. Hannah Cech from Clarkson finished the game with 3 strikeouts, with Reann following her with 2. They both tied with one walk during this game as pitchers. After the game, the Cylones had to band together to try to win the second game of the day.
In the second game, the Cyclones played Logan View/Scribner Snyder. The cyclones battled their way to the end of the game, but ended up losing 6-8. The Cyclones had 6 runs and 6 hits during this game. Shaylynn Marty from Leigh and Allie Dirkchneider led this game with 2 hits. Hannah Cech, Reese Bruhn, Reann Bruhn, Britney Faltys, and Dani Dirkschneider each had 1 hit in the game. Hannah, Shaylynn, Allie, Reann, and Brittney all had 1 double during this game. Shaylynn Marty led this game with 1 triple. The Cyclones had 9 hits, 5 doubles, and 1 triple during this game. Hannah led the game with 5 putouts, with Brittney behind her with 4, and Reese following with 3. During this game, Matelyn Rayback from Leigh led with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. In general, this game could have turned out better, but the Cyclones couldn’t get their bats going soon enough.
