HWY 91 Cyclones battle against the Aquinas Monarchs
The Highway 91 Cyclones took on the Aquinas Monarchs in Ashland on Monday, October 7th in the sub-districts. They fought hard but lost the fight 0-8. The top of the first inning went quick for the Cyclones with senior Jordyn Ratzlaff hitting a line drive to short being the only one on base. In the top of the second inning, the Cyclones kept battling, sophomore Reann Bruhn got on base with a walk. In the top of the third inning the Cyclones are pushing hard, sophomore Allie Dirkschneider hits a hard ground ball and reaches first. Then Ratzlaff singles off a hard ground ball to center field allowing Dirkschneider to advance to second. The top of the fourth inning was tough for the Cyclones. Freshman Brittney Faltys singled a hard ground ball to left field. The game ended on a disappointing note for the Cyclones since they didn’t score any runs. “We made a couple of mistakes that allowed Aquinas to get up on us early and we couldn’t string together enough hits offensively to give ourselves a chance,” said head coach Drew Machmueller about the Aquinas game. On the same note Machmueller said this about the whole season, “First of all, I want to thank Jordyn and Ady, our two seniors, for their time and effort in the Cyclone program. I was very excited about the number of girls we had out this season. I really hope that interest in softball continues to grow. I think we took some steps forward as a group and showed flashes of what we can become going forward. There are certainly things we need to improve on for next year, but I believe the girls returning are up to the challenge.” The Cyclones ended their season 9-16.
