HWY 91 Cyclones battle against GACC
The Highway 91 Cyclones took on the GACC Bluejays in West Point on Monday, September 9th. They fought long and hard but lost the fight 5-4. Senior Jordyn Raztlaff pitched all 7 innings for the Cyclones. In the first 2 innings, neither team scored any runs. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Bluejays put up 3 runs on the board, taking the lead. In the top of the 4th inning, Matelyn Rayback was walked, bringing up freshman Brittney Faltys. Faltys doubles on a fly ball to right field, advancing Rayback to 3rd base. Reese Bruhn hit a line drive to shortstop, scored Rayback, and advanced Faltys to 3rd base. After 3 outs, the score was 3-1 GACC. In the top of the 4th inning, senior Ady Krupka hit a fly ball to left field. Next up was sophomore Allie Dirkschneider, who got walked and advanced to 2nd base. Sophomore Autumn Slaughter bunted, scoring Krupka and advancing Dirkschneider to 3rd base. Senior Jordyn Ratzlaff hit a hard ground ball to shortstop, making the bases loaded. Faltys hit a ground ball and reached second, scoring Dirkschneider, Slaughter, and Ratzlaff, making the score 3-3. At the end of the 4th inning, the score was 5-4 GACC. In the top of the 5th inning with 1 out, Krupka was walked and Dirkschneider flew out to left field. Slaughter and Ratzlaff ground out to the second baseman ending the game. There was a stand-still in the 6th and 7th innings, ending a tough-fought battle with a score of 5-4 GACC.
“That was a fun ballgame. It was tight both ways and one more play defensively or one more timely hit offensively would have potentially changed the outcome,” says head coach Drew Machmueller. “Proud of how the girls kept adjusting and producing as the game progressed.”
